Since 1989, he has run the consulting firm, A. John Peters Consulting. In 2001, the company was renamed to OTG-DSS Inc. (This stands for On the Go, Distributed Software Systems). Its main business consists of the creation, testing and installation of software applications in a distributed environment. Users of his system install programs from Local Area Networks (LANs), Intranets, the Internet and Compact Disks. OTG-DSS Inc. also maintains secure Websites for certain customers so their users can maintain, download and keep records of private information and programs. 

Mr. Peters created OTG-DSS Inc. to diversify his business to include the creation and maintenance of e-commerce web sites, training of business owners on how they can best use the Internet, and avoid troublesome problems with their computers and computer networks. As part of his training of business users, Mr. Peters taught classes at Central Lakes College on "Securing Your Small Business Network", Advertising Your Business on the Web" and "1-ON-1Training for Creating Your Own Website". He was also the lead adjunct professor of information technology at the MN School of Business in St. Cloud, MN.

In 2003, Mr. Peters was named by Governor Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota as a "Minnesota Entrepreneurial Champion" for using the Internet to promote locally produced goods.


QUALIFICATIONS and ACCOMPLISHMENTS

  • Adjunct professor at the MN school of Business teaching System Analysis and Design, Project Management, Introduction to Networks, Visual Basic.net, C++, Software Design and Logic, Database Concepts, A+ Software Certification, and Networking Concepts.
  • Maintain and host 50 web sites many of which use online business transactions. (eCommerce)
  •   Updates and maintains a private school network of Macintosh and PCs. Systems are connected to both Windows and OS X servers. Instituted content management using Dan's Guardian on an OS X server.  Supports several applications including PowerSchool, Accelerated Reading, Star Reading and an Exchange Server connected to Macintosh and PC mail clients.  Teach faculty and students how to best use the Internet including Web Publishing, Use of Streaming Video, Blogging and Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
  • Taught Network, Software Development and Web Classes for Central Lakes College and MN School of Business.
  • Created and maintained Electronic Software Distribution systems for Novell and NT Networks with Windows Workstations using WINBATCH, Installshield Developer, SMS and Prism Deploy. System saved a fortune 500 corporation an average of $2,000,000 a year over 7 years.
  • Using above system, virus updates went out 4 hours after fix was available.
  • Completed upgrade of 6,000 PCs in 109 sites from I.E. 4.0 to 5.5 in 2 weeks with less than 1% failure rate. 
  • Created multiple OS software development and testing system using VMware.
  • Proficient in Linux, OS X, Windows NT 9x, XP and 2000 using both Server and Workstations.
  • Created a system that updated over 600 standalone PCs in 50 cities from MSDOS applications to Windows applications while saving all data.
  • Programmed in C, FORTRAN, PL1, PHP and Visual Basic. 
  • Utilized ODBC, JDBC, MS Access. 
  • Understand the Windows Registry.
  • Taught and created courseware for Math, Computer Networking, Computer Programming and Computer Basics using traditional material and web-based courseware.
  • Programmed Database driven web sites using SQL Server, mySQL, PHP, Javascript and Coldfusion
  • Support Apache, Apache Tomcat and IIS Web Servers
